Rynni Henderson, who has more than 20 years’ experience in newspapers, magazines and digital media, has been named the new publisher of the Carlsbad Current-Argus.
"Rynni is a great addition to our executive management team,” said Sergio Salinas, president and chief executive officer of the Texas-New Mexico Newspapers Partnership, which manages the Current-Argus. “We are fortunate and proud to present her as the new publisher of the Current-Argus. As publisher, she will lead our content development and sales initiatives, both in print and digital. Her goal will be to maintain our leadership position as the best source of news, information and marketing solutions.
“In addition, Rynni will continue to brand the Current-Argus as a strong voice in the community and a good corporate citizen serving Carlsbad and surrounding region. Her background and experience are a perfect fit to help her team achieve these goals," Salinas said.
Henderson succeeds David Stringer, who took a position with an East Texas newspaper.
She said her goals for the Current-Argus are simple: to expand the print and online presence to serve the total audience.
“Doing this will make us the very best and most valuable news source serving the community, our readers and our advertisers. I’m thrilled to become a part of this vibrant and booming area, and can’t wait to jump into the community,” Henderson said.
She has served in a variety of marketing and publishing positions in her career, including publisher of The Daily Journal of Commerce in Portland, Ore.; publisher of The Times of Acadiana in Lafayette, La.; and publisher of Florida Keys Magazine in Key West, Fla.
In addition she served as retail advertising director for Mid-Valley Newspapers in Oregon and corporate sales development manager for Lee Enterprises.
Henderson is a graduate of Louisiana State University, with a degree in news-editorial journalism.
She has been married for 22 years to Larry Henderson, who is founder and owner of Henderson CPAs, a national firm specializing in accounting and financial services for the dental industry.
They have one daughter, Jenna, and a granddaughter, Emma, who live in Florida.
When not working, Henderson enjoys hiking and hunting with her two springer spaniels, as well as traveling and doing yoga.
She said she also is passionate about cooking, and sold wine for two years, which led to her becoming a bit of a “wine geek.”
